Determine minimum transformers required

Figure out how many transformers you'll need by multiplying the total fixtures by the max watts used by each fixture

Max watts to plan per fixture (assumes max lumen setting)

Determine minimum number of lines (runs) required per transformer and common

Figure out how many lines you'll need and which tap to put each line on by determining voltage drop and max fixtures per line.

Use the below table as a general guideline. It assumes 12/2 wire is used. Using a smaller gauge will result in higher voltage drop.

In our example, if the locations of the fixtures require the below run lengths based upon the fixture and transformer locations:

We would have 5 runs:

Run #1 5 Bonsai accent @ 60' on 15V tap (100W)

Run #2 5 Aspen accent @ 75' on 15V tap (50W)

Run #3 4 Aspen accent @ 150' on 15V tap (40W)

Run #4 3 Palmetto area @ 80' on 15V tap (30W)

Run #5 2 Palmetto area + 8 Dogwood deck @ 40' on 14V tap (28W)

And for the two 150W commons:

Common 1 Run #1 + Run #5 (128W, 15% capacity remaining)

Common 2 Run #2 + #3 + #4 (120W, 20% capacity remaining)

In this example if our 300W transformer had only 1 common all 5 runs would run though it without issue.
